Caribou

Caribou

I confess to being a tad embarrassed with this one. Caribou came to my notice (and MP3 player) about 5 or 6 months back. And I misplaced them. Sorry.

Fortunately I was trawling through indiemuse today, noticed the name, sat there going “I know this guy’s stuff” and then the penny dropped. When I changed over to the iPod I lost a couple of folders. Bingo.

So go to http://www.myspace.com/cariboumanitoba and click on “Sandy”. It’s a glorious piece of psychedelic pop that sound s as iif it has hitched a ride on a time warp and jumped 40 years into the future. Swirling whistles, flutes, guitars, layered vocals and it is really wonderful. If I were you I would squirrel a copy of this away for your nostalgia pile (in case you hadn’t noticed the future is here).

Some stuff about the band…

Caribou is the stage name for Daniel V. Snaith, who produces and composes all of the music on Andorra. Snaith started out in 2000 recording under the name Manitoba, but legal troubles forced the adaptation of the name Caribou. Snaith has released two albums under the new name, 2005’s The Milk Of Human Kindness and 2007’s Andorra.

Overlooked (by accident) but Highly Recommended

Websites at http://www.myspace.com/cariboumanitoba and http://www.caribou.fm/

thatch is fascinated by guitars, music, guitars, production, silly noises, guitars and used to be a musician. Did I mention the thing about the guitars?
