Wintermitts

Putting it quite simply Wintermitts are a hoot (and Canadian). They have the happy knack of putting a smile on your face. I think it’s their lineup in part. A combination of accordion, flute, melodica, trumpet, and glockenspiel. As well as the all the usual suspects (you know… guitars, bass, keys, drums). But for all the spiffy instruments it’s Lise Monique Oakley’s vocals that will stop you.

Have a listen to the wonderfully vigourous DANS this song has one of the catchy choruses that you will be singing along with by the end of the first playing, lots of chanted vocals, hand claps and the ever reliable “ah-ah-ah-ahs”.

Lets insert the obligatory hype here…

From the cutesy amicable stage presence, to the sultry french cafe influenced tunes, to the soft rock outs, these kids are on to something…fun! Playing together Lise, David, Shane and Christian have played and swayed audiences around the Vancouver and Seattle areas. They also continue to build a reputation of DIY attitude with their creative self promotion scheming and artwork. With a unclassified unique sound and a cozy name borrowed from fellow Canadian artist Julie Doiron’s song “wintermitts”, the bilingual group plans on inspiring, touring and recording a new album in the near future.

For me it’s a tossup between “Schoolyard” and “En Avion” for the prettiest song on offer at www.myspace.com/lisemusic. I think “En Avion” just possibly wins. The glock just makes these pieces, but DANS is the killer track.

Highly Recommended (even with the accordion)
